OVERVIEW

Carstensz Pyramid is the highest mountain in Indonesia and also within the region of Oceania. It is located on Papua Island and became one of the Seven Summits. Besides, Carstensz also known as the highest mountain peak of an island on Earth.

Carstensz is well-known among mountaineers all around the world because of its challenging climb. Reaching to its summit involve crossing tropical jungle and meadow in order to get to the basecamp. The last part requires us to climb a cliff of more than 500 meters, using a fixed rope.

 

Since it's located in the middle of Papua island, the area is quite remote and difficult to access. But on this program we are chartering a helicopter to access to the basecamp directly.

Around Carstensz Pyramid, there are several other peaks which are interesting to climb, such as Ngga Pulu (4,863 m), Soemantri Peak (4,870 m), and East Carstensz Peak (4.808 m). These three peaks are still covered by ice which annually dwindling.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrive in Timika

You need to take the flight that arrive in Timika by the morning. Our staff will pick you up at Mozes Kilangin airport and transfer you to the hotel. While the schedule is tight, you may need a good rest in the hotel. We will do a gear check to make sure everything is set for your safety.

 

Day 2:  Timika – Yellow Valley (4.250 m)

Fly in the morning to Yellow Valley using a chartered helicopter for about 30 minutes, then we build our campsite. After that, we do an acclimatization. It’s important that you training well before this program, because we will reach four thousand meters directly from sea level within half an hour.​

Day 3: Acclimatization and training

Today we’ll do a necessary training and practice on the first part of rope to refresh your basic rockclimbing technique. The guide will assess your ability so they can adjust the strategy and decide best time to start the summit attack tomorrow morning.

 

Day 4: Summit day (4-5 hours up, 3-4 hours down)

We will start early morning before dawn. First, we will walk follow the path to the wall. We will climb the wall using a fix ropes for about 500 meters high. There are several places which is pretty flat, where we can have a small break for snacks and drinks. After we reach summit ridge at 4.800 meters, the path will be quite flat. But that the hardest part. We will cross the famous Burma Bridge (3 points bridge) and find another 3 gaps that quite challenging. Approximately after 5 hours we will reach the summit and after some glorious moment up there we climb back down to Basecamp.

 

Day 5: Yellow Valley - Timika

We will fly back to Timika in the morning by helicopter. We will have a farewell dinner at evening..

 

Days 6: Leaving Timika

We will transfer you to the airport. End of the expedition program.

RECOMMENDATIONS

  1. The mountain flight with helicopter demand a good and calm weather. No flight if cloudy or high wind.

  2. We suggest you to take an open schedule ticket on your international flight so it's easy if there any schedule change due the weather.

  3. For domestic flight, you can buy a one-way ticket from Bali or Jakarta to Timika, It easy to get the ticket leaving Timika just in time.

  1. The helicopters is very strict with weight limit per flight. Additional flights will incur extra charges if required. Your cooperation in adhering to weight guidelines is essential.

  2. We will provide nutritious meals, ample drinking water, and high-quality group camping gear. With the trip lasting only 2-3 nights on the mountain, we ensure a comfortable and worry-free experience.
